COLD CASE : GCSE MATHS HIGHER : AQA AND EDEXCEL
Nine GCSE Maths papers your child has never seen
Cold Case papers are orginal Higher Tier practice papers. Each one comes with a forensic mark scheme that shows where the marks went, not only how many were lost.
Sit it cold. Solve it before the real one

9 full papers
Three sets of Papers 1, 2 and 3
80 Marks each
1 hour 30 minutes per paper
AQA & Edexcel
Written for the Higher tier of both exam boards
Forensic mark schemes
One provided for each paper
A score tells you how many marks were lost. It does not tell you why you lost those marks
The past papers have been seen
By Year 11 many students already met the published past papers in class, some of them more than once. A familiar paper flattens the score.
A normal mark scheme stops at the answer
It shows what was expected. It does not show the slip that cost the mark, so the same slip comes back on the next paper.
Practice without a record changes little
Unless every lost mark is written down and sorted, revision goes back to whole topics when the real problem is two or three habits.

What's in every Cold Case Paper

A full exam booklet
24 pages, 80 marks, 1 hour 30 minutes. It is laid out like the real exam with answer lines, working space and the marks for each part in the brackets. The questions get harder as the paper goes on.
Every question is orginal so nobody has met it in class or found it online.
A forensic mark scheme
Method, accuracy and independent marks are set out for every question, the way an examiner awards them.
Under each question is a box called Where the marks go missing. It lists the errors that most often cost marks on that type of question, so your child can find their own.

A Mark Recovery Log and Case Debrief
At the back of every booklet, each lost mark is logged under one of four causes
R : Misread the question
M : Did not know the method
A : Accuracy slip arithmetic, a sign, or copying
T : Ran out of time, or left it blank
The debrief adds them up. Marks under R, A and T are marks your child already had the knowledge to score-
How to work a Cold Case
STEP 1
Sit it cold
No notes, no warm-up, a timer set for 1 hour 30 minutes. The same conditions as the exam hall.
STEP 2
Mark it
Use the forensic mark scheme in a different colour, and read the box under every question that lost marks.
STEP 3
Log it
Record each lost mark as R, M, A or T in the Mark Recovery Log. The pattern is usually clear after one paper
STEP 4
Fix it
Write three changes for the next paper, then sit the next one and see whether the same marks come back.
THE COLD CASES
Three sets. Each one is full exam series.
Every set has three papers and 240 marks, the same shape as the real exams. A good plan is one set before the mocks, one after, and one kept for the final weeks

THE INVESTIGATOR
Written by a teacher who has marked the scripts
Mike Taylor has taught GCSE Maths for more than ten years and has marked thousands of exam papers. The same errors cost capable students marks year after year, and it is almost never because they do not know enough.
Every Cold Case question and every line of the mark schemes was written with those errors in mind.
Questions parents ask
Which exam boards are these for?
AQA (8300) and Pearson Edexcel (1MA1), Higher tier. The two boards examine the same content, and the papers are written to suit both.
How do we get the papers?
PDF orders arrive by email as soon as you have paid. Print each paper on A4, or as a folded A3 booklet using the print file included. Printed orders are posted to your UK address.
When should my child sit them?
Anytime from the autumn of Year 11. One paper a fortnight marked and logged properly, does more than three rushed in a week,
Is there a Foundation tier version?
Not yet, Cold Case is Higher Tier only for now.
Are these past papers or predicted papers?
Neither. Every question is new and written by Maths Forensics. We do not claim to predict what will come up. The aim is honest practice on unseen questions
